Broadband Discussion at the University of Missouri
Please join MU leaders, faculty and staff on Thursday, Oct. 24 for a fast-paced session that will focus on regional and local broadband access! And please help us get the word out by sharing this information with individuals and entities in mid-Missouri that are interested in this topic. Broadband is a critical factor in economic growth, educational opportunity and access to healthcare — for all of Missouri and beyond. During sessions featuring keynote speakers and panel and tabletop discussions, we will strategize with legislators, industry partners and stakeholders on how to make high-speed broadband internet available throughout the state.
Part I (8:30– 9:55 a.m.)
Special guests include Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe, Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture Chris Chinn, Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education Zora Mulligan and Missouri Director of Broadband Development Tim Arbeiter. Emily Spain of KOMU will serve as panel moderator. Broadband Part I will also be simulcast to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, followed by each university hosting a targeted regional discussion in Part II, with an address by each Chancellor on his or her own campus.
Part II (10–11:45 a.m.)
Special guests appearing in Columbia include Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst; Missouri Hospital Association President and CEO Herb Kuhn; and Ruby Bailey, executive editor of the Columbia Missourian. Emily Spain of KOMU will serve as panel moderator. Mizzou Chancellor Alexander Cartwright will close this session with a Chancellor’s Challenge you won’t want to miss! MU Extension faculty and staff will leave these sessions with a working model and tools to address broadband access and other key issues within their counties and regions.
