Major Nursing Program Expansion approved
Last week, the Missouri State Board of Nursing approved a major expansion for nursing programs at five universities. The expansion could help reduce the nursing shortage experienced by Missouri’s hospitals. MHA has long supported strengthening our nursing schools. More than 15 years ago, Missouri hospitals partnered with nursing schools to provide faculty for expanded capacity through MHA’s Clinical Faculty Academy.
Staff nurses have the highest vacancy rate among hospital-based health professions and are the largest single category of hospital employee. Through this expansion, more than 500 new openings for nurse-candidates will be available in Missouri, including programs in rural Missouri.
When we work together to #ReimagineRuralHealth, we expand health care access and create opportunities for growth.
